Gyotoku Mikoshi Museum

Preserving the tradition of Nakadai Mikoshi in Gyotoku

Gyotoku is one of Japan’s Mikoshi producing areas, Nakadai Manufacturing was founded as a specialised workshop for producing Mikoshi woodwork since the Edo era. We, as traditional Mikoshi makers, work with techniques such as woodwork, metal ornaments, sculpting, lacquer, gold plating, framework and complete our own products from start to finish.

To provide a place where people can learn about traditional Japanese culture such as festivals and Mikoshi and feel familiar with them, we opened the “Gyotoku Mikoshi Museum” and it is the first Mikoshi museum in the world.

Please visit us as we exhibit Mikoshi, Mikoshi interior and the craftsmen’s tools, which are rarely seen up close.
